to shunt or not to shunt
That is the question we are all faced with right now. We went to the neuro today and Naysa's head circumference jumped a bit. She was following her curve wonderfully but I noticed her head looked bigger so I'm glad she got to be seen today. Dr. Levy is out of the country until the last week of June so she will go see him the 29th and from there he will decide if he wants to continue to follow her and just keep an eye on her head or if she needs a shunt. This appointment decides if we still go on our road trip back home July 1st..the nurse practitioner said if she ends up not needing one she would be fine to go on the trip but would just be seen as soon as we get back. On one hand I don't want her to need a shunt. It's something she will have the rest of her life, it's another surgery and it will more than likely require surgeries the rest of her life because they have been known to fail and break. On the other hand I think it's a good thing for her. It would alleviate pressure on her optic nerves and hopefully help improve her vision, it would get rid of the excess fluid that makes her head heavy so she could have better neck control & it would help to make her head shape more round opposed to cone so the bone in her skull would normally instead of up. I am very anxious for this appointment and more than likely will be until the day arrives. Thank you all for continued prayers.
