A new view
On Tuesday, the 19th our little bug made her way into the operating for the third time in her 15 months of life. We were all a little excited about this surgery with the hopes it would improve her vision even more so she could see the world around her and look upon the faces of the people who love her so. The technical medical term for this procedure is Recession of Medial Rectus Muscle Subconjunctival Injection Eye...aka fix her wondering eyes due to Strabismus. It was a relatively quick procedure, we were in and out in about 4 hours! We arrived at the hospital at 0530 for check in and they took her back for anesthesia around 0740. Once she was in recovery we were able to go back and see her. Her sweet little face was swollen and her eyes were red rimmed and puffy. Between her hoarse cries and rough time opening her eyes, her daddy and I were on the verge of tears. We wanted to take her home and snuggle her immediately but it was another hour or so before she was discharged. Up until today she had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia. She didn't eat anything the day we came home and the next day barely two ounces of milk, yesterday she finally ate half a jar of sweet potatoes and a 4 oz bottle! She is staying awake for more than 10 minutes at a time and exploring her new world. Her eyes look incredible! It is so strange to see her looking straight ahead without one eye wondering off to the side or waiting for a perfect moment where her eyes are aligned to take a picture. She seems to be more interactive and smiling more when you smile at her and I can't tell you how happy that makes us. She is full of attitude and is definitely happy to have her voice back! Due to surgery she has missed this week of ABM (Anat Baniel Method) which makes me worry she will fall behind or forget the things she's learned but Kristi has been so amazing and flexible that we may get to go see her Sunday :) Thank you all for the constant support, neither Naysa nor I would be as strong and successful with her development if it weren't for your love. We see Dr. Levy (neurosurgeon) on July 10th to set a date for surgery to cap off her skull! I am very excited about this surgery for her and for less panic attacks for me when people want to hold her lol. Besides, the way she's been wiggling around on tummy time, she will be crawling soon ;)
