A morning in the ER

The past 3 or so days Naysa has been vomiting quite a bit after every feeding, running a low but steady fever and more sleepy than usual. My first worry is automatically her shunt. I psych myself out and suddenly her head looks bigger to me and her veins more prominent. Ben agreed to the better safe than sorry saying and with a quick phone call to the command we were off to ER. Thankfully there was NO ONE there and we got in right away where they weighed and inspected her. The nurses came in to collect blood and urine samples and she did NOT like that. Apparently only her left hand is good for getting blood, you'd think after all the times she's been stuck someone would have told us that! My poor baby worked up a sweat from all the thrashing she was doing, it was horrible. They wanted to do a catheter to collect urine but I made them wait an hour so she could rest and recover from having her blood drawn. The catheter wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, she used a newborn size and Naysa barely seemed to notice anything aside from the cold swab of the iodine. We waited for results, which seemed like FOREVER. Urine came back clear of UTI or Kidney infection and the blood showed a slight jump of a virus. The full results won't be back for a day or two but I am very relieved it wasn't her shunt. They sent us home with some pedialyte so she can retain some fluids. After a 5 hour trip in the ER we are now home and relaxing in our jammies :) Ben is feeding the bug some apples and bananas then I'm sure she will conk out for an afternoon nap. We have an appointment on Monday with the Neuro just to be sure everything is okay.
